Therapy - To Thine Own Self Be True
The
most personalized relationship we can have is with ourselves.
We can only avoid true recognition of our psychological, relational
and spiritual needs at great risk. Throughout our lives there
are pivotal and disruptive developmental transition points, passages
from one stage of life to another, where there are great opportunities
for change. These periods, while opportune, can also feel, and
can indeed be perilous. It is useful to have a guide to lead the
way.
Counseling and Coaching
At Isenberg & Associates we offer counseling and coaching in problem
solving your difficulties. People simply seem to need an experienced
objective person with whom they can confidentially share their
particular life problems, aspirations for the future, sort through
their choices and make decisions.
We are trained to listen for what you are really saying, and ask
the relevant questions that you are not asking, but which will
help in decision making. We help you think and feel through problems
and hopes so you can respect your choices and plan for the future.
Psychotherapy
It is true that often we can create our own problems and may only
know it after the damage is done- to us and/or to others. There
may not be anyone or anything else besides ourselves getting in
our way. We avoid, get angry, are disrespectful of people we care
about and ourselves, fall in love too easily with the wrong people,
are hurt too easily, stay in relationships going nowhere, have
no meaningful or loving relationships. We are not happy or successful,
we are sad, lonely, depressed or find ourselves in some sort of
trouble. We are our own biggest obstacle in career and business
advancement. Sometimes life is just dull and going nowhere. Time
goes by, and over time, we are not happy.
When issues seem repetitive, when you're doing, thinking and feeling
the "same old same old" again and again, you may consider
psychotherapy with someone who can offer the depth and perspective
needed to change your self-defeating behavior so you can get more
from your life's experiences.
While psychotherapy may include counseling and coaching, it goes
further, to help the client truly see into him/herself and recognize
the core issues which lead to self defeating feelings, thoughts
and behaviors. In psychotherapy the relationship with the therapist
can be a catalyst to exploring the client's often-conflicting
goals in life. Self-imposed miseries reflect a divided self, stuck
between needs, hopes and fears. Healing this division can take
time. The investment is required for any meaningful, purposeful
change to take place.
