My "I" Contains Many "We`s"
Our sense of who we are is shaped by those to whom, for better or worse, we feel attached. Attachment is a profound need in all of us, to belong somewhere, for some reason, to someone. Albert Einstein put this in a spiritual perspective:
Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however there is one thing we do know: that we are here for the sake of each other, above all, for those upon whose smile and well being our own happiness depends…
Many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of others, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving.
“We are here for the sake of each other” is a truth which is as often violated as it is honored in our daily lives. We can see this in the problems our clients have with themselves and each other. Yet we reach into ourselves and out to each other because it is our nature to do so.
