Financial Issues

Family finances are area of struggle for most of us. The common issue is how do we allocate our monies and better ourselves financially? Each life stage presents different personal financial decisions. How we spend and save in one stage influences the resources and plans for the next stage. A counselor who can act as a financial coach, someone different from a numbers cruncher, with an understanding of human personality needs and relational dynamics can be a useful partner in the development of financial planning and, for some, financial recovery.

Life change often presents new money issues. Newly divorced or single with children, your situation can overwhelm your finances. New marriages with and without children or maybe with stepchildren, can create financial stress. It often means coming up with an agreeable way handling finances together.

Many of the couples we see have financial problems caused by different orientations to money and problems talking about money concerns and differences without anger and hurt. Family crises, job losses, relocations, retirements, college costs, supporting relatives, child support may stress family finances. Over-spending, debt and problem gambling can overwhelm families and lead to financial recovery counseling. When money problems become a wedge issue between partners, we can help. We can mediate differences and help think through solutions for a healthier way of relating to financial difficulties. We can help you become part of the solution and not stay part of the problem.

While not financial or investment planners, we help clients prepare themselves personally to get the expert help they may require. Too often we’ve seen people go for expert financial help, and get what may be perfectly adequate financial advice and plans, but they aren’t prepared individually or together to implement it. We’re the experts in personal development and relational dynamics who help you accept the disciplines required for financial development.
