Parenting Children, Adolescents and Young Adults
We become parents in so many ways- from inner yearnings to "accidents"
to meeting our own parents' and social or cultural expectations.
Parenting provides satisfaction, funny times and hard work at doing
"right" by our children and ourselves. Sometimes we are not good
enough, sometimes we are and at other times we are just confused
and hoping to do things better.
As therapists, we find that we can help parents be the parent they
want to be, to be a better resource for their children's and adolescents'
development, by closely paying attention to what's in them or in
the situation which is getting in the way. At Isenberg and Associates,
we know the sense of dilemma parents face in doing the "right thing."
We have insight, skills and experience to help, and where we don't,
we refer to those who have more highly specialized skills and programs
needed to help children's or adolescents' social, behavioral and
academic development.
Like adults, children, adolescents and young adults traverse a series
of developmental milestones, which can be challenging and even disruptive.
Among the issues we help children and adolescents face are:
- Persistent
feelings of dissatisfaction
- Problems
with behavior, school adjustment or performance
- Physical
or sexual problems or concerns
- Unexplainable
fatigue or difficulty sleeping
- Difficulties
in talking with or dealing with parents, step parents, siblings
or other family members, teachers, or friends.
- Feelings
of loneliness, moodiness, depression, sadness, failure, stress
of anxiety.
- Individual
or family stress due to chronic illnesses, or illnesses in which
stress plays a major role.
- Problems
with drugs or alcohol in child or family member.
- Difficulty
in setting or reaching goals
- Drastic
weight fluctuations or irregular eating patterns.
- Academic
difficulties
- Difficulties
with anger, hostility or violence.
